Andy Barton, the popular former Director of Rowing at Glasgow University BC who oversaw roaring growth at the club, has been appointed Scottish Rowing’s Club Support Manager.
In this new role, which comes as part of Scottish Rowing’s Regional Development programme relaunch, Barton has responsibility for developing the tools and resources to help club leaders manage and build successful sustainable clubs. As part of his remit he is also the regional lead for the West.

Your questions will be answered during the workshop but unfortunately technical issues mean we are no longer able to live stream the session. The workshop will being recorded and we will be share the audio recording the following week.

Having been drafted into Britain’s men’s double sculls crew at the last minute as a replacement for Glasgow’s Angus Groom, who fell sick, Edinburgh’s Harry Leask and his partner Jack Beaumont took bronze medals in a blanket finish of their final, with just over a second separating the first four crews.

In the last final of the third day of the European Championships at Strathclyde Park, the British women’s eight, with Scotland’s Olympic silver medallist Karen Bennett and Katherine Douglas aboard, both from Edinburgh, overtook the Netherlands to grab silver medals as they then closed down on the eventual winners, the world champions from Romania.

All six Scottish athletes in the Great Britain team at the European Championships have kept their medal hopes alive.
With Edinburgh’s Harry Leask already in Saturday’s semi-finals, courtesy of a heat win on Thursday with new double sculls partner Jack Beaumont, the other five Scots were in action on Friday.

Scotland’s Olympic-standard rowing course at Strathclyde Park, complete with up-grades that include an expanded finish tower and a brand-new albano buoying system, plays host to full international racing when the rowing programme of the multi-sports European Championships starts on Thursday 2nd August.
