After nearly a decade on the Board of Scottish Rowing - as Director of Performance - Dorothy (Dot) Roberts has announced that she is stepping down with immediate effect due to personal circumstances.
During Dot’s time on the Board there have been many significant performance highlights including record Scottish representation at both the Rio and Tokyo Olympic Games, and medal topping performances by the Scotland Rowing Team at the Commonwealth Rowing Championships in 2018 and 2022. She has also overseen additional investment from sportscotland and British Rowing which has helped to create new coaching roles in the performance pathway.
Dot has also represented Scotland’s interests during her time as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Rowing Association, a role that she is also relinquishing.
Reflecting on her time with Scottish Rowing, Dot Roberts commented:
"Scottish Rowing has undergone great change during my time on the Board and it has been a pleasure to be able to support the Performance Team in its efforts to enable Scottish athletes to achieve their goals. There is, as always, still much to do, but progress has been positive and significant.
“We have recently welcomed a new cohort of extremely impressive Directors onto the Board and I am excited by the energy and commitment they have already shown. I am certain that they will be a huge asset to not only the organisational staff and volunteers, but also the community of rowing in Scotland. I wish everyone involved all the best and will watch progress with interest."
Alistair Neill, President of Scottish Rowing, said:
“The Board of Scottish Rowing are indebted to Dot for her time, commitment and enthusiasm to the sport. During her term as Secretary General of the Commonwealth Rowing Association, Dot has been able to ensure that Scottish Rowing will be well positioned to have a key role in the new event of beach sprints which is becoming more relevant in the future of Commonwealth and Olympic rowing.”
The election of a new Director of Performance will be confirmed at the 2024 Scottish Rowing AGM on Sunday 6 October.
