Scottish Rowing is delighted to announce the appointment of three new members to its staff team.

In recent weeks, Hannah Ferris has joined the organisation as Performance Development Coach. Hannah has wasted no time settling into the role, already attending three major events to support Performance and PDA athletes, including the Spring Regatta, Olympic Pathway Regatta and BUCS Regatta.

Hannah joins Scottish Rowing from British Rowing, where she worked as the Regional Talent Coach in Nottingham at the East Midlands Region. She has also coached at Loughborough Boat Club, where her own rowing journey began as a junior, bringing both highperformance experience and a strong understanding of the athlete pathway into her new role.

Hannah said:

“I’m a few weeks into my new role at Scottish Rowing after a short break from coaching, and it’s been great to be back involved in the sport. I’ve really enjoyed working with new athletes, clubs and universities, and getting stuck into the start of the regatta season. Looking forward to seeing the centre and the athletes continue to grow over the season.”

Following discussions with the Board and Senior Leadership Team, the former Pathway Development Manager role has been redefined to better reflect the evolving needs of the rowing community. We are pleased to introduce David Smith as Scottish Rowing’s new Club Development Manager.

David brings a strong background in sport, having enjoyed a successful athletics career as a high jumper. He represented Scotland at three Commonwealth Games, Glasgow 2014, Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022, and brings a wealth of experience from both elite sport and athlete development into his new role.

David said:

“I am really excited to join the Scottish Rowing team and to meet everyone across the sport. I am looking forward to visiting clubs, building strong relationships and working together to help rowing grow and thrive.”

Stepping into the role of Competition & Event Manager (maternity cover) is Morag Kelman.

Morag brings a wealth of experience from both education and rowing. She has spent the past 16 years working as a PE teacher and has an extensive rowing background, having competed for ASRA and Scotland as a junior. Her coaching experience spans both the UK and overseas, including roles in Sydney, at Lady Eleanor Holles and Molesey Boat Club, as well as at George Heriots and in Aberdeen. Morag also worked as a Henley Stewards’ Charitable Trust Coach for two years, further strengthening her experience within the sport.

Morag said:

“I am excited to be joining the team at Scottish Rowing.  Being involved in rowing again feels like I am returning to my roots.  I am looking forward to contributing positively to events that enable others to enjoy participating in rowing competition as much I did.”

Scottish Rowing CEO Lee Boucher said:

“We’re really pleased to welcome Hannah, David and Morag to Scottish Rowing. They join us at an important moment following the launch of our new strategy in March, with a clear focus on extending our reach, strengthening the pathway and delivering for our members. Each brings experience and perspective that will add real value and I’m looking forward to seeing the difference they make as we turn the strategy into delivery across the country.”

We are so pleased to welcome them to the team and cannot wait to see the impact that they make!
