Scottish Rowing is pleased to announce that Perri McCluskey has recently started with the governing body as Assistant Performance Pathway Coach following a comprehensive and competitive recruitment process.

Perri returns to Scotland to join the team, having spent the last season down in Windsor, rowing with the GB Rowing Performance Sculling Academy and coaching the junior programmes at Eton Excelsior Rowing Club and Windsor Girls’ School Boat Club.

Perri is very familiar with the Performance Pathway in Scotland, having taken up rowing at Stirling University in 2016, before joining the Performance Development Academy (formerly World Class Start) in early 2017, representing Strathclyde Park Rowing Club for many years. Perri later went on to row with Edinburgh University Boat Club (Scottish Rowing’s High Performance Partner) while completing her post-graduate degree in Soils & Sustainability. Perri has also been a Scottish Rowing Performance Programme supported athlete since 2020, working closely with our colleagues from the sportscotland institute of sport.

Perri represented Scotland three times at the Home International Rowing Regatta, captaining the Senior Women’s team on her final appearance in London in 2022. She was also part of the team that lifted the Katherine Grainger Quaich on home soil in 2019. A Henley Women’s Regatta winner in 2019, and finalist again in 2023, Perri went on to represent Great Britain at the Duisburg International Wedau regatta and Holland Beker regatta, in the single and double scull, respectively.

Interim Head of Performance, Tom Young, said: “The Performance Pathway Team is hugely excited to see Perri get started in her new role. She brings a wealth of first-hand experience of working through the Scottish and GB Performance Pathway, and her work ethic and personable approach will be second to none.”

Talking about what she’s looking forward to the most, Perri McCluskey said: “I’m looking forward to working with so many talented athletes to help them to develop on their journey of becoming high performance rowers. I’m also very excited to be working with some of the other coaching teams across these programmes, learning from like-minded individuals and getting the personal development opportunities that come with this role.”

Perri began her role working alongside Tom Young and Iain Docwra in the Performance Pathway team last week, where she will be helping to run the Performance Development Academy programme alongside her support of Scottish Rowing Performance Pathway activities that run throughout each season.

The recruitment process was overseen by a panel of Tom Young (Interim Head of Performance), Dot Roberts (Director of Performance) and Shirley Addison (sportscotland Lead Performance Lifestyle Practitioner).

Welcome aboard, Perri!
