Whilst Scotland’s leading rowers on the GB Rowing Team prepare for the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics this summer, closer to home the next generation of talented athletes have been training hard towards their own long-term goals as part of the Scottish Rowing Performance Programme.
Since October, the twelve athletes who make up this season’s Scottish Rowing Performance Programme contingent have been training in person, as per Scottish Government rules allowing for the continuation of performance and professional sport. Under this special dispensation, the athletes have been able to travel to and from training and have had access to indoor and outdoor facilities at approved venues.

Members and friends of Clyde Amateur Rowing Club are saddened to learn that former member Annelise Grimason (nee Rennie) has sadly passed away.
Annelise, who was 50, had been diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago and suffered a decline in the last year. She was a pupil at Hutcheson’s Academy in Glasgow, and, with her pairs partner Catriona Maccallum, represented GB at the Junior World Championships in Cologne in 1987, making them the first female Scottish Rowing crew to achieve full GB selection. They won the B final to come 7th. East Germany won the A final.

This March Jo is walking 10,000 steps per day throughout the month to help beat cancer - and the rest of the staff team are joining her!
The last 12 months have been difficult for everyone but for Jo Pinder, Scottish Rowing’s Membership Services Administrator, the challenges have been very different. It started with the discovery of a dangerously enlarged spleen during a holiday of a lifetime trip to New Zealand in January 2020 - just as the world was hearing of a new virus coming out of China. This abruptly ended the tour and further investigations back in the UK led to a diagnosis of Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer.
