The Scottish Rowing Junior 16 Land Camp is an annual residential camp delivered by the Scottish Rowing performance and pathways team with support from partners. The camp is targeted at Scottish J15 and J16 rowers (those born between 1st September 2007 and 31st August 2009) who are looking to further develop their rowing skills and knowledge. All athletes wishing to attend should be fit and able to undertake land-based training including on the ergometer and must hold a current Scottish Rowing membership. The camp will take place at the sportscotland National Training Centre Inverclyde, Largs on the 8th–10th of December 2023. Athletes will arrive on the Friday evening and depart on the Sunday afternoon.
The camp will be led by members of the Scottish Rowing performance and pathways team alongside several guest coaches and practitioners. It will also include a presentation from a Scottish and GB international talking about their journey through the sport.
Confirmed Guest Coaches & Speakers:
The camp will feature technical work using the ergs, strength and conditioning sessions, teambuilding games and educational talks. There will be targeted coach education sessions and opportunity between sessions for both athletes and coaches to discuss thoughts and ideas with the guest coaches and practitioners.
Scottish Rowing is keen to ensure a quality experience for all participants and therefore there will be a maximum of 36 spaces available. In the event of over-subscription (which has been the case in previous years), Scottish Rowing will consider any relevant data and will consult with coaches to allocate spaces.
We encourage not only rowers, but coxes to attend too. Coxes will receive specific cox education throughout the camp, through knowledge building and practical application.
There will be a £135 athlete contribution fee*. This will be used to cover accommodation, board and facility hire. Please note that this is heavily subsidised by Scottish Rowing. There will be no cost for any club or school coaches attending the camp as this will be subsidised by Scottish Rowing.
*Scottish Rowing believes in equal opportunity for all. If you require any financial assistance, please contact Cara O’Donnell ( cara.odonnell@scottish-rowing.org.uk ) and we can discuss options. Help will be provided on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.
Rowers and coaches wishing to register for the Scottish Rowing Junior 16 Land Camp should complete the online registration by no later than 5pm on Wednesday the 1st of November.
Applicatioins for the 2023 Camp are now closed.
Following the registration deadline, Scottish Rowing will contact those rowers who have been successful in achieving a place on the camp by Friday 17th November.
