Following the recent recruitment of Ian Munro to the Scottish Rowing Board of Directors as the Non-Executive Director for Performance, Scottish Rowing are pleased to welcome the newest members of the Performance Advisory Group (PAG). 

The Performance Advisory Group is a sub-committee of the Scottish Rowing Board and acts to support the delivery of the Scottish Rowing Performance Pathway. The group supports the development of the strategic direction of the Pathway, monitor its progress and effectiveness in working towards its Long Term Outcomes, as well as the management of selection policies and processes for the Scotland Rowing Team & Scottish Rowing Performance Programme.

Scotland Rowing Team – Team Manager (HIRR):

Ailsa Martin

Ailsa takes on the role of Team Manager of the HIR Regatta Team, expanding her management responsibilities for the HIR Beach Sprints Team, which she took on for the 2024 Regatta. 

Alongside the Scotland Rowing Team, Ailsa has previously been Assistant Team Manager for the GB Rowing Team at the European Rowing Beach Sprint Championships and World Beach Sprint Finals in 2024. She also spent 18 months working for British Rowing as the Performance Programme Co-Ordinator (Pathways) where she supported the admin and logistics for various parts of the British Rowing Performance Pathway in both classic and beach sprints rowing. Ailsa learnt to row at Glasgow Schools’ RC before moving to University of St Andrews where she would become President of the Boat Club and later, Sports Union President where she contributed to the development of the Coastal Rowing Programme at UStABC. Ailsa now runs the Outreach Programme at Inverness Rowing Club, building awareness and participation in rowing in the Highlands!

When asked about taking on the role, Ailsa had to say "I'm delighted to be HIRR Team Manager and building on my experience with the Beach Sprint Team. It will be great to be part of something bigger and support the team to do their best this season at Eton Dorney."

Ailsa will be joined at the helm of the Scotland Rowing Team by Cara O’Donnell from the Scottish Rowing staff team who will serve as Assistant Manager for the Scotland Rowing Team.

Independent Performance Advisors

We are pleased to announce two recruits for the Independent Performance Advisor roles, these volunteers will bring a fresh perspective to the PAG, sharing their experiences across the Performance Pathway from other sports, offering best practice as well added impartiality to selection decisions across our programmes and teams.

Paul Greaves

Paul joins us from the University of Stirling where he is Programme Director for Sport Development & Coaching, alongside his work in education, Paul is also Technical Lead for Trampolining with Scottish Gymnastics. Paul is incredibly experienced in the Performance & Pathway spheres, having set up and developed in a trampoline club in Sheffield, working as Pathway Lead for British Gymnastics, where he would eventually work with Team GB’s Bryony Page, supporting her to win the first two of her three Olympic Medals at the Rio 2016 & Tokyo 2020 Games. Paul is no stranger to working with new sports either, as he has also worked with GB Snowsports, coaching Winter Olympians in Freestyle Skiing.

Kim Murray

Kim returns to Scottish Rowing having spent 18months working as a Performance Coaching Apprentice on the sportscotland Coaching Futures Programme. Kim has experience across a range of sports in multiple roles, having started in athletics, she was eventually Talent ID’d through the UKSport ‘Power2Podium’ for GB Skeleton and following a 5-year career she finished ranked 18th in the World. A Physiologist by trade, Kim has previously worked with Rowing, Netball and Athletics during her time with the Scottish Institute of Sport, before going on to work at the UK Sports Institute as the physiologist for the Modern Pentathlon Olympic Programme into the Paris 2024 Games. Kim is an advocate for athlete well-being, and champions causes including women in coaching and leadership and environmental sustainability.
