The Scottish Rowing Dinner will take place on the 18th November at Hamilton Ice Rink and members are invited to join us to celebrate the presentation of two Scottish Rowing Fellowships.
The first receipient is Dame Katherine Grainger. Dame Katherine’s achievements on the world stage in the sport are numerous. With Olympic silver at Rio 2016, gold at London 2012 to add to her silver medals from Sydney in 2000, Athens in 2004, and Beijing in 2008, as well as six world championships titles in her collection, Dame Katherine is Britain’s most decorated female Olympic athlete and the first British woman to win medals at five successive games.
The second will be to John McKinney. John was the quiet, calm, composed voice of Race Control for Scottish Rowing events at Strathclyde Park for as long as most people in Scottish Rowing can remember. It has been difficult to put an exact date on when John first assumed this role. What we can agree on is that John was doing the job before the Finishing Tower at Strathclyde Park was constructed, thus putting the date in the early eighties. Certainly, by the time of the 1986 Commonwealth Games, John was well-established in the role.
We would be delighted if you could come along to the dinner to celebrate the achievement, commitment and dedication shown by both worth recipients.
