Scottish Rowing joined ASDA Active and Active East in Glasgow last Friday 25th July to celebrate the Commonwealth Games with young people in Glasgow.

GB Rowing Team Performance Director Sir David Tanner and his Chief Coaches Jurgen Grobler and Paul Thompson have today underlined their confidence in a national squad which has so far delivered 31 medals at World Cup and European level this season, 12 of them gold.
The trio named a largely-unchanged GB Rowing Team to compete at the World Championships in Amsterdam next month of 66 rowers (including spares) in 19 crews.

It was a 100% record for the three Scottish Boats that represented Great Britain at the GB French Match in Nantes last weekend. Following last year’s whitewash in London the French were determined to make amends and the Scottish crews came up against some of the top French boats.

FIVE Scottish rowers have been selected as part of a 50-strong GB Rowing Team squad of up and coming rowers that will travel to Varese, Italy, for the World Under-23 Rowing Championships taking place there from July 23-27.
The 50 rowers will compete across 13 boat categories and the Championships will provide them with a chance to impress on the world stage and to follow in the footsteps of a number of former GB winners who are now permanent fixtures in the senior squad.

The Scottish quintet of Heather Stanning, Imogen Walsh, Polly Swann, Sam Scrimgeour and Alan Sinclair all brought home medals from World Cup III in Lucerne, Switzerland following Sunday’s finals.

On Friday July 18th the Loch Lomond Rowing Club will be transporting the Queen's Baton across Loch Lomond as part of the relay building up to the Commonwealth Games. The baton will be carried in an 8 by Scottish Rowing Vice President Martin Claxton from Drumkinnon Bay to Balloch Park jetty at 16.30.

On Saturday 22nd February, a significant entry of over 90 crews took part in the Macrae & Dick Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head in blustery weather conditions on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. Much excellent racing was witnessed over the 4.4 kilometre course in an exciting day of competition which included crews from all over Scotland.

Scottish Rowing is sad to report the death of Harry Wylie, Honorary Vice-President of Scottish Rowing, on June 7th at the age of 103. Harry was one of a group of teachers who set up the Glasgow Schools Rowing Association and went on to be President. A full obituary appeared in the Herald on Wednesday 25th June.

It hasn’t exactly been a fantastic start to the rowing season so far as the rain and wind continues to impact training and racing across Scotland and all over the UK.
