Despite the gruelling and stormy weather Scottish Rowing were joined by coaches, volunteers and athletes from a number of rowing, coastal and para-sport clubs for an exciting and thought provoking day on the development of para-rowing in Scotland.

Scottish Rowing staff were supported by experts from British Rowing and GB Rowing Team to facilitate discussions, challenge mind sets and support clubs in breaking down the perceived barriers to introducing adaptive-rowing in to their own club.
The day focussed on how to break down barriers to participation in adaptive and para-rowing, in addition to providing clubs with the practical knowledge on equipment and classification.

A para-rowing talent identification session was also incorporated in to the development day enabling the coaches and volunteers to get involved and experience first-hand the rewards of coaching para-athletes. Ten aspiring Paralympians from across Scotland attended the session held at the Scottish Rowing Centre to be put through their paces.

John Blair, Scottish Rowing Centre Manager and Para-Rowing Coach said, “It was great to see so much enthusiasm for para-rowing from both the aspiring athletes, and coaches. Development days such as these are the foundation in building a complete pathway for disabled people ensuring that there are adaptive and para-rowing opportunities throughout Scotland.”
