If identifying one person in Scottish rowing – during Women's Sport Week - who best symbolises what is good about the sport is an impossible task, then Castle Semple’s Clare Rainbow is a serious contender.
As a competitor, Clare has won Scottish, English and British Indoor Championships in the last 12 months.
Yet surprisingly the 52 year old from the Bridge of Weir does not have an extensive sports background - indeed until recently she never even owned a pair of trainers.

In view of the high winds forecast for tomorrow, we have assessed the situation and decided to cancel tomorrow’s Rio Regatta at Strathclyde Park in the interests of the safety and well-being of the participants.
It is with regret that we have made this decision but do not feel it is sensible or appropriate to expose beginners or inexperienced participants to the potential risk of difficult water conditions.
We are looking at options for a future event aimed at new entrants to the sport.
Scottish Rowing would like to thank all the clubs, volunteers and other partners who have supported the event.

One of the most inspiring people you are likely to meet this year is soon-to-be Atlantic rower Elaine Hopley who will be our guest at this weekend’s Rio Regatta in Strathclyde Park.
Passionate about adventure sports and “pushing body and mind to the limits”, the 43 year old from Dunblane is preparing hard for her biggest sporting challenge yet – the 3000 miles Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge this December.

The Crichton University Campus Boat Club (CUCBC) is inviting all members of the public – staff and students, or otherwise – to join them in the celebration of their brand new rowing boat on Monday the 19th September. Since the establishment of the University Boat Club in 2012, it has grown from strength to strength with the help of local rowing club, Nithsdale Amateur RC. This year, however, marks an important milestone for CUCBC as the club succeeded in securing enough funding from the Crichton Foundation, the Holywood Trust, and the Awards for All program from Sports Scotland to buy its very own high-quality racing boat and new Club Performance blades.
The boat will be christened by Professor David Clark, former Director of the University of Glasgow - Crichton Campus and long-term supporter of the University Club. The ceremony will take place at 5PM on Monday the 19th September at the NARC boathouse on Greensands, Dumfries.
Scottish Rowing representatives will also be present at the ceremony, along with members of the Dumfries community and members of the two respective rowing clubs.
Some light refreshments and cakes will also be provided to raise funds for the club.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please do get in touch by emailing us at cucbc@live.com or by visiting our website at www.cucboatclub.weebly.com and our Facebook/Twitter pages (@CUCBC).
