Both of the Scottish athletes involved in Tuesday’s repechage action – Glasgow’s Angus Groom in Britain’s men’s quad sculls crew, and Edinburgh’s Polly Swann in the women’s four – had results that kept their medal and Olympic qualification campaigns on track.

With three crews to go through to the semi-final from their repechage, Swann’s four came second behind New Zealand to progress, while the British men’s quad, with Groom onboard, won their repechage, coming through Ukraine and New Zealand early in the race to seal their win.

However, competing in their opening heats, Edinburgh’s Melissa Wilson quadruple sculls crew could only finish third behind China and New Zealand, while the British women’s eight, featuring Edinburgh’s Olympic silver medallist Karen Bennett and Glasgow’s Rowan McKellar, were second in their heat behind New Zealand, and both these crews now move onto the repechage stage.
