Members from Inverness Rowing Club were involved in three significant and separate rowing events on the River Thames last weekend.
In Saturday’s Head of the River event on a four and a quarter mile course in London between Mortlake and Putney, Alan Sinclair raced in the Leander Club’s crew which achieved a fine second placed finish behind the Molesey Boat Club crew which recorded the fastest time of the day although both crews narrowly avoided sinking in the difficult headwind conditions. After the first 100 crews had covered the course, the race organisers abandoned the race in the worsening conditions which unfortunately caused several crews to sink beyond the finish line.

In the much calmer conditions which greeted Sunday’s Vesta Veterans Head of the River Race, John Sharkey and Dave Rothwell rowed well in a composite Aberdeen BC/Mortlake Anglian & Alpha BC and Inverness RC Open Masters E eights crew which recorded a solid performance on the flood tide in London from Hammersmith to Mortlake. Hazel Smith was also racing on the Thames in Sunday's event with the ladies of Belfast Boat Club, finishing in 37th place overall and in 2nd place in the Women's Masters D event category.
Also on Sunday on the Thames at Henley, Rowan Arthur from Wester Ross rowed in the universities of Oxford and Cambridge Henley Boat races as a member of the Oxford men’s lightweight crew which challenged all the way down the famous Henley regatta course but eventually lost out to their Cambridge opponents.
