“What's lovely is seeing people who will come through the doors of this in the next two or three years, but then five, 10, 15, 20, then 50 years beyond that and benefit in some way,” said Dame Katherine Grainger who returned this week to the place where she first rowed, the West Boathouse on Glasgow Green.

“They won't all need to become international athletes but they will find a community, a home, a family and support, fun and challenge and laughter all in one building.
 
“When you see that translated into the community further afield then there's something very special that will happen here.”

The UK’s most decorated female Olympian met juniors from Clydesdale ARC and Clyde ARC before discussing volunteering, sports development, equality, inclusion and the rejuvenation of the West Boathouse.

The West Boathouse project seeks to adapt and convert the semi-detached clubhouses into a shared and accessible boathouse that serves the users of Glasgow Green and wider community groups in the future, as well as it has served the rowing clubs in the past.
