Coaches play a crucial role in the development of the sport of rowing and in the lives of the athletes they coach.

Good coaches ensure that individuals in sport have a positive experience and are therefore more likely to continue in rowing and achieve their potential.

Coaches at all levels must demonstrate a high degree of honesty, integrity and competence. The need for coaches to understand and act on their responsibilities is of critical importance to rowing, as is the need to protect the key concepts of participation for fun and enjoyment as well as achievement.  This is good coaching practice.

The following code of conduct was written by sportscoachUK (www.sportscoachuk.org) and defines all that is best in good coaching practice. It is incorporated into Scottish Rowing’s governance documents.
