On 2nd November, Ailie Ord and Gillian Connal travelled to London to take part in the Veteran Fours Head on the Thames. Racing with fellow Scots Sally Pollok-Morris (Reading) and Claire Haley (Ex of Aberdeen, now Marlow), the SPRC members raced in a WVetB 4x.
With heavy rain before the start, the organisers shortened the course so that it finished at the British Rowing raft just short of Hammersmith Bridge. The move was precautionary, taking into account previous races where rain and adverse winds had swamped crews on the stretch from Hammersmith to Putney.
However, the scratch crew dealt well with the conditions and were first women home, finishing 21st (out of ~200 crews) overall in 12:12.39. This was 22 seconds clear of the next women’s boat, the fastest women’s four, a WA/B crew from Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha, and 26 seconds clear of next women’s quad (Barnes Bridge Ladies).
Full; results for the Veteran Fours Head can be found on their website.
