Advance notice of new format for 1x and 2-The Scottish Rowing Board has asked the Domestic Regatta Organising Committee (DROC) to run a pilot scheme that will operate a new format of racing for the 2014 Scottish Rowing Championships.
This new format aims to raise the profile of the Championships and provide a better, more competitive racing experience for all participants. The format has been used successfully at the British Rowing Championships and BUCS Rowing Championships.
The pilot is restricted to SINGLES and PAIRS (both Open and Women’s) in the following categories:
Open Open Lightweight IntermediateNoviceJunior 18Junior 16Schoolboy/girl U18Schoolboy/girl U16
Open Singles and Women’s Pairs would be held on one day with the reverse on the other.
Veteran crews and Junior crews below J16 are not included in the pilot
How does it work? All of the sub-categories above are combined into one event.
All crews will compete in a time trial over a 1400m course.
The ranking of crews in this Time Trial will be used to seed crews into side-by-side races over the standard 1500m course as follows:
Crews ranked 1 – 12 from the Time Trial will compete in semi-finals A/BThe 3 fastest crews from each semi final will progress to Final AThe remaining crews from these semi-finals would progress to Final B
Crews ranked 13 – 24 from the Time Trial will compete in semi-finals C/DThe 3 fastest crews from each semi final will progress to Final CThe remaining crews from these semi-finals would progress to Final D
Crews ranked 25 and above will progress to Finals E, F, G ... as necessary
Following the Finals, the highest placed crew in each sub-category will be declared the winner. The overall winner (the Scottish Champion) may also win a sub-category (e.g Open Lightweight). Medals will be awarded to the first three in Final A. There may be silver and bronze medals awarded to sub-categories depending on the number of entries in each.
ProgrammingThe Time Trial will take place before the first side-by-side race of the day Semi-finals (A/B & C/D) and any Minor Finals (e.g. E, F, G etc) will take place late morning Finals (A, B, C, D) will take place mid-late afternoon
