At the Scottish Rowing AGM today, Caroline Parker announced that she was reluctantly stepping down as President for personal reasons. Matt Taylor, as Vice President, will deputise while we issue a call for nominations and give appropriate notice of a date for an EGM.
Matt thanked Caroline on behalf of Scottish Rowing saying,
“Thank you so much for your duty, kindness, care and for personifying our values - Scottish Rowing is stronger because of you, and we owe you a debt of profound gratitude for your service - I hope that the care, pride and support that you have shown in our community, will be reciprocated back onto you as you step back, but certainly not away from our community”.

Report by Julia Belgutay
Scotland’s Masters rowers were out in force in France earlier this month as the World Masters Regatta took place in Libourne. To what sounded like the loudest cheers of any nation, just over 30 men and women from five clubs across the country took part in around 100 races in boat classes from mixed quads to 8+ and singles. And the medal haul was impressive – with Strathclyde Park Rowing Club’s competitors alone coming first in eight races, placing the club 8th in the world. Gregor Hall from Stirling won his A1x and the MixA2x with Gillian Connal from SPRC, while Eva Rankin from Loch Lomond RC also came back with two medals, winning in the WG1x and as part of a WH4x.

Following the sad announcement of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II yesterday, a period of National Mourning has now started and will continue until the end of the day of the State Funeral.
During this time of reflection, there is no obligation for Clubs to cancel or postpone rowing activities. This at the discretion of Clubs, considering the nature and tone of the activity and the need to be respectful and considerate of members and your communities. Clubs may also look to show their respect in ways that they deem appropriate, such as a period of silence.
For rowing activities or events on the day of the State Funeral, Clubs may want to adjust the event timings so they do not clash with the timings of the funeral service and associated processions. As a mark of respect, and in keeping with the tone of National Mourning, organisers may wish to hold a period of silence and crew members may wish to wear black armbands or ribbons.
Should you require more information, the UK Government has issued guidance for the public and organisations.
The Scotland Rowing Team selection policy for the 2022 Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprints Championship is now available on the Rowing for Scotland page.
