Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports (SCIO) is a charity which aims to positively impact lives in the North Glasgow community through the promotion of a range of accessible, affordable, and sustainable opportunities for local young people (and on occasion the wider community) to participate, coach, or volunteer in rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and other sport, and physical activity related opportunities at the Firhill Basin in North Glasgow.

Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) works in partnership with Scottish Rowing, the governing body for the sport of Rowing in Scotland, and Glasgow Life/Sport Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) also works in direct partnership with Glasgow Kayak Club & Partick Thistle Football Club as well as a range of local partners.

In this exciting role, the successful post holder will have operational responsibility for the co-ordination and delivery of water sports activities and other sporting and educational activities in the Firhill Basin. Additionally, the successful post holder will be responsible for identifying and applying for funding from any relevant source to ensure that long term sustainability of the charity.

The post will include working with children and young people from various communities in North Glasgow and managing the group of volunteer coaches that support the charity in its activities.

We are seeking a dedicated, driven, and motivated individual who will be inspired to work for a charity whose aim is to inspire local young people from the North of Glasgow to take part and sustain their participation in rowing and other water sports and educational activities within our Community Project. Our candidate will share the view that sport has the power to change lives.

Job Description

The Project Co-ordinator & Lead Coach will report to the Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) Board of Trustees and will be responsible community engagement, building local partnerships, and co-ordinating programmes, activities & events in collaboration with key partners. The role will include both on and off the water programme delivery which will be supported by sessional & volunteer coaches. 

The successful candidate will be required to maintain positive working relationships with:

• All key partners - Scottish Rowing, Glasgow Life, Glasgow Kayak Club, Partick Thistle Football Club.
• Delivery partners and organisations (e.g., Local youth groups/ Active Schools).
• Volunteer coaches, participants and parents or guardians of participants.
• Any relevant funding organisations. 

Key responsibilities will include:

• To plan and coordinate the scheduling and delivery of other sporting, lifestyle, and educational activities and events.
• To develop and lead the delivery of water sports activities for children and young people.
• To apply for any relevant funding streams and develop the financial model for the charity to work towards long term sustainability.
• Implement cohesive approaches to facilitate strong partnerships and robust communications streams to ensure effective community engagement with all local partners.
• To promote community leadership and active participation of the Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub SCIO whilst being a positive role model.
• To manage the team of volunteer coaches, ensuring all sessions have the appropriate number of competent coaches present.
• To identify and coordinate a suitable volunteer development training programme with a range of local service providers
• Maintain update to date registers of all children/young people and volunteers
• To assist with promotion, marketing campaigns and brand awareness of all Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub programmes and activities. 
• To complete and provide regular monitoring, evaluation, and impact reports in relation to all programmes and activities including monthly update reports
• Complete timely evaluation reports to funders
• Ensure PVG process is administered effectively for all volunteers
• Provide any information requested by Board relating to the Project 

Additional responsibilities

• To attend relevant training courses to improve your experience and knowledge in line with the post.
• To respect the rights of all participants and ensure that their well-being and safety are always paramount.
• To attend any meetings required such as committee or board meetings and provide activity updates when required.
• To complete annual report
• The ability to adapt sessions to cater for various levels of age & ability and ensure all sessions are participant centred.
• To ensure that all activities are delivered in line with Scottish Governing Body policies and procedures, particularly Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy, Water Safety and Coaches Code of Conduct.
• To inspect all sports and activity equipment prior to and after session to ensure safe to use and report defective equipment to the relevant organisation for repair.
