GB Rowing Team Under 19 February Long Distance Trial

This weekend it's the turn of the leading Scottish junior rowers to test themselves against the best in the country at the GB Rowing Team Under 19 February Long Distance Trial.

In total 16 athletes representing 5 Scottish clubs, including 10 athletes supported through the Scottish Rowing Junior Academy programme, have made the long drive down the country to compete over 2 days on the River Witham in Boston, Lincolnshire.

Senior internationals return as GB Rowing Team Open Trial heads to Boston

The next stage of the GB Rowing Team trialling process for senior and under 23 teams in 2023 returns this weekend as the leading athletes in the country descend on Boston, Lincolnshire, looking to make their mark across the 5k course on the River Witham.

The entry list for the GB Rowing Team Open Trial sees 11 rowers representing Scottish Rowing member clubs competing as part of an enhanced field which for the first time this season also includes the returning GB senior internationals who had been exempt from the November trial.

Scottish Rowing @ Doddie Aid Regatta

Scottish Rowing were invited by Dame Katherine Grainger and Rob Wainwright to put together a Scottish Rowing team for the #DoddieAid Britannia Regatta onboard the Royal Yacht Britannia.  Rowing was well represented, with a team from Glasgow University Boat Club also taking part.

GB Rowing Team’s Dan Cooper visits Scotland

The GB Rowing Team’s Under 19 Programme Manager Dan Cooper recently spent four days in Scotland where he was able to engage with athletes and coaches from across the Scottish Rowing community.

Dan was a guest coach at the Scottish Rowing Junior Academy camp held at Strathclyde Park on Saturday 21 January where he led a video analysis session and presented a GB Rowing Team update.

He also got the opportunity to travel around Scotland visiting training sessions with Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association, George Watson’s College and St Andrew Boat Club.

A member of Nithsdale Amateur Rowing Club for decades, as both a talented rower and later an influential coach. Members past and present of Nithsdale will know of George’s commitment, guidance and encouragement that he gave the club over the years and he will be sadly missed.

Funeral Service to be held at William Jardine Chapel of Rest, 23 Terregles Street, Dumfries, on Friday 13th January 2023 at 10.00am. All friends respectfully invited to attend.

Scottish Rowing Project Awards

As 2022 draws to a close Scottish Rowing is delighted to have had two of its community-based projects recognised in local authority awards. 

Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub have been awarded two major awards, the Glasgow Sports ‘Community Project of the Year Award’ and the Pride of Queens Cross ‘Community Health and Well-being Award,’ recently due to their investment in helping the young people in North Glasgow stay active and develop new skills by increasing accessibility to water-sports and other educational activities.

Scotland Rowing Team tops medal table at the Commonwealth Beach Sprints in Namibia

The Scotland Rowing Team topped the medal table at the Commonwealth Rowing Association Beach Sprint Championships in Walvis Bay, Namibia winning gold medals in three out of the four events.

The Namibian Canoe and Rowing Federation, supported by local partners as well as World Rowing and the Commonwealth Rowing Association, hosted the first ever Beach Sprints coastal rowing competition in Africa, on Independence Beach from 2-4 December 2022.

GB Rowing Team Under 19 Early ID Trial

On Saturday it was the turn of the under 19 athletes to row the 5-kilometer course on the River Witham in a bid to show their early season form to GB selectors. Twenty Scottish athletes and their coaches travelled to Boston to race alongside over 200 other boats after qualifying their spot with a 2k ergo performance.
