Job Title: Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) - Project Coordinator

Contract: 20 hours per week, fixed term until end March 2023 with the intention to extend subject to funding.

About Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO)

Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports (SCIO) is a charity which aims to positively impact lives in the North Glasgow community through the promotion of a range of accessible, affordable, and sustainable opportunities for local young people (and on occasion the wider community) to participate, coach, or volunteer in rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and other sport, and physical activity related opportunities at the Firhill Basin in North Glasgow.

Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) works in partnership with Scottish Rowing, the governing body for the sport of Rowing in Scotland, and Glasgow Life (Glasgow Sport), the local public authority for sport in the Glasgow City Council area. Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) also works in direct partnership with Partick Thistle Football Club and Glasgow Kayak Club, the hubs key partner clubs.

About the post holder

In this exciting role, the successful post holder will have operational responsibility for the co-ordination of water sports activities and other sporting and lifestyle activities in the Firhill Basin. Additionally, the successful post holder will be responsible for applying for funding from any relevant source to ensure that long term sustainability of the charity.

We are seeking a dedicated, driven, and motivated individual who will be inspired to work for a charity whose aim is to inspire local young people from the North of Glasgow to take part and sustain their participation in rowing and other water sports. Our candidate will share the view that sport has the power to change lives.

Job Description

The Project Coordinator will report to the Firhill Youth Project and Community Sports Hub (SCIO) Board of Trustees and will be responsible for community engagement, building local partnerships, and co-ordinating programmes, activities & events in collaboration with key partners. The successful candidate will be required to maintain positive working relationships with:

  • All key partners - Scottish Rowing, Glasgow Life, Partick Thistle Football Club and Glasgow Kayak Club.
  • Volunteer coaches, participants and parents or guardians of participants.
  • Delivery partners and organisations (e.g., Active Schools and local youth groups).
  • Any relevant funding organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • To plan and coordinate the scheduling and delivery of other sporting, lifestyle activities and events.
  • To apply for any relevant funding streams and develop the financial model for the charity to work towards long term sustainability.
  • Implement cohesive approaches to facilitate strong partnerships and robust communication streams to ensure effective community engagement with all local partners.
  • To promote community leadership and active participation of the Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub SCIO whilst being a positive role model.
  • To assist with promotion, marketing campaigns and brand awareness of all Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub programmes and activities.

  • To respect the rights of all participants and ensure that their well-being and safety are always considered.
  • To attend any meetings required such as committee or board meetings.
