High Performance Programme

Scottish Rowing, funded by sportscotland, invests into a number of university-based rowing programmes with a view to supporting the development of talented Under 23 rowers.

The universities on this programme have made a commitment to work in partnership with Scottish Rowing to establish a high performance programme led by a full-time professional rowing coach and supported by first class support services.

Admission to the rowing programme at these universities is based on merit and entry is not exclusively restricted to students. A significant focus of the rowing programme is on talent identification and development working closely with the GB Rowing Team Start programme.

Currently Scottish Rowing invests in the following university rowing programmes:

  • University of Aberdeen / Robert Gordon University
  • University of Edinburgh
  • Glasgow University

Rowing scholarships are available at these universities to rowers demonstrating potential - contact the respective Head Coaches on the Club Finder page for further details.

Performance Partners

Strong partnerships are the backbone of any successful organisation and Scottish Rowing is extremely fortunate to have a number of first class partners supporting our most promising rowers and coaches.

sportscotland
sportscotland is Scottish Rowing’s primary funding partner and they invest heavily across all aspects of the Scottish Rowing Performance Programme as part of their commitment to creating a world class sporting system.

sportscotland institute of sport
Scottish Rowing works with the sportscotland institute of sport across their regional network to provide support services for our most talented athletes at Junior and Under 23 level. Scottish athletes supported through the UK Sport World Class Programme also receive access to Institute services when they are in Scotland.

GB Rowing Team
The GB Rowing Team is the high-performance arm of British Rowing. They train, prepare and select crews to represent Great Britain in international competitions at junior, U23 and senior level, from Under 16s to World Cups, World Championships the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games.

Winning Students
Winning Students is Scotland's national sports scholarship programme supporting students competing in high performance sport.  Winning Students allows our most talented rowers to combine a first class education in Scotland with competing at the highest level in rowing.

Scottish Sports Aid
Scottish Sports Aid is a charity that provides financial assistance in the form of grant awards to talented sporting youngsters in the 12 to 22 year age range and to disability athletes of various ages. The finance given to our rowers helps with their travel and training costs, and will hopefully assist them in becoming Scotland's future sporting stars.

University of Edinburgh
University of Aberdeen / Robert Gordon University
Glasgow University
Scottish Rowing invests in the performance rowing programmes at the University of Edinburgh, Glasgow University and at the University of Aberdeen / Robert Gordon University. Each of the university programmes employs a full-time professional rowing coach and invests heavily in dedicated support services.
