On Saturday 27th February, a significant entry of crews from Scottish clubs and universities took part in the JBT Inverness Eights and Small Boats Head in sunny but cold weather conditions on the superb rowing waters of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness. Much excellent racing was witnessed over the 4.4 kilometre course in an exciting day of competition which included some crews from south of the border.
The Open Eights was won by a Glasgow University BC crew in a fine time of 14 minutes 42.609 seconds, whilst the fastest time in women’s Eights was recorded by a Robert Gordon University BC crew in 17 minutes 43.13 seconds in the Women’s Open event.

In coxless pairs events, fastest men’s crew came from Aberdeen University BC whilst a crew from Heriot Watt University BC was the fastest women’s crew. In double sculls events, the fastest men’s crew came from Strathclyde University BC with a crew from Strathclyde Park RC achieving the distinction of fastest women’s crew. A Strathclyde University BC member was the fastest men’s single sculler with Strathclyde Park RC providing the fastest women’s single sculler.Inverness members performed well in each division, with a fine win in open junior 16 double sculls, whilst other Inverness crews just missed out on medal positions.

The Scottish Students Head events took place on both Saturday and Sunday 28th February with slightly warmer conditions greeting the entry of students in the variety of event categories offered on the Sunday. Some fine competitive performances were achieved with honours being shared fairly evenly between the university crews taking part.
